Vietnam’s diplomacy charts course for national rise

-The Politburo has identified the coming years as a critical window of opportunity and a decisive phase for Vietnam to achieve its two centennial strategic goals of becoming a developing country with middle-income status by 2030 and a high-income, developed country by 2045, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.

Mr. Son told a symposium in Hanoi on Friday on Vietnam’s diplomacy in the era of national rise that to achieve these objectives, Vietnam's foreign affairs must find strategic pathways.

These goals will not be met without firmly safeguarding a peaceful and stable environment, and national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, he said.“It is crucial to harness the synergy of Party external relations, state diplomacy, people-to-people diplomacy, defense diplomacy, public security diplomacy, and parliamentary diplomacy. Priority must be given to science and technology diplomacy as science and technology development will serve as the key driver of national development in the coming time,” the Deputy PM said.

Delegates also discussed new content of Vietnam’s diplomacy in the future, global trends that will directly affect Vietnam from now until 2030 and the essential role of diplomacy in creating a peaceful and stable environment while fully tapping into external resources for national development.
